I recently had the honour of speaking on 2SSR FM on the Enterprise program with the incredible host Jo Ryan. It was an emotional and deeply meaningful interview where we explored the reality of domestic violence, trauma bonds, emotional healing, and the journey of rediscovering identity after abuse.

LISTEN TO THE INTERVIEW HERE:

This conversation created space for truth, education, and empowerment. Together, we spoke openly about the topics many women are too afraid to voice — not because they are weak, but because they have been conditioned to survive in silence.

What We Spoke About

During the interview, we discussed:

  • Why women stay in abusive relationships
  • Understanding trauma bonds and the nervous system response
  • The power of knowledge in breaking the cycle of abuse
  • Psychological and emotional manipulation
  • How hypnotherapy, EMDR-style processing and Timeline Therapy® support healing
  • My book I See You and the mission behind it
  • The ‘Let’s Be Real’ school wellbeing program and educating the next generation

These conversations matter. Education changes outcomes. Awareness saves lives. Knowledge is power.

Breaking the Silence

Millions of women suffer behind closed doors, feeling ashamed, confused, and alone — believing they are the problem. Sharing this publicly was a reminder that:

Domestic violence has no face, no stereotype, and no boundaries.
You can look strong and still be breaking inside.
You can be successful and still be trapped.
You can leave and still feel lost.

Healing begins when we understand the psychology of abuse and stop blaming ourselves for what we were conditioned to tolerate.

A Voice for Every Woman

This interview was for:

  • the woman holding everything together in silence,
  • the woman rebuilding from nothing,
  • the woman trying to understand her own story,
  • the woman who is ready to rise.

If you survived it, you are already extraordinary.

Thank You

Thank you to Jo Ryan and the Enterprise team at 2SSR FM for creating a platform where real conversations spark real change. I am grateful for the opportunity to speak for the women who don’t yet have their voice.

Celebrate Women Award

I’m a Finalist in the Celebrate Women Awards 2026

There are moments in this work where you stop and realise how far you’ve come — not just as a practitioner, but as a person. Being named a finalist in the Celebrate Women Awards 2026 is one of those moments. I’ve been recognised across three categories: Leap of Faith, Trusted Mentor & Coach, and Wellness With Heart. Each one speaks to a different part of the journey — the courage it took to step into this work in the first place, the relationships I’ve built with the people I support, and the holistic approach that sits at the heart of everything I do. Why This Recognition Means So Much My path here hasn’t been a straight line. Like so many of the women I work with, I’ve had to break cycles, reclaim parts of myself, and rebuild an identity that was truly mine. That’s what led me to specialise in

“Why Didn’t You Just Leave?” — On Sharing My Story

Content warning: this post discusses domestic violence and coercive control. I recently sat down for a conversation on the Honestly, me too. podcast and talked, openly, about twenty years of my life inside a cycle of domestic violence — with the same person, over and over again. It’s the first time I’ve told that part of my story publicly, in full. And the question that sits underneath almost every conversation about abuse is the one I’ve been asked more times than I can count: why didn’t you just leave? I understand why people ask it. From the outside, it looks like a simple decision. From the inside, it never is. What people don’t see As a Clinical Hypnotherapist and Psychotherapist, I now spend my working life helping people recognise the patterns that kept me — and keep so many others — stuck for far longer than makes sense from the

Hypnotherapy for Stress

Hypnotherapy for Stress: How to Calm an Overwhelmed Nervous System

Have you ever been so exhausted that you could barely think straight — yet the moment your head hit the pillow, your mind switched on like a light? That’s not a contradiction. That’s stress. I’m Maree-Nicole, a Clinical Hypnotherapist and Psychotherapist, and if there’s one thing I see more than anything else in my practice, it’s this: capable, high-functioning people who are running on empty and can’t work out why they can’t just switch off. They’ve tried early nights. They’ve tried holidays. They’ve tried telling themselves to relax — which, as you may have noticed, has never once worked in the history of stress. Here’s what I want you to understand: you can’t think your way out of stress, because stress doesn’t live in your thoughts. It lives in your nervous system. And that’s exactly why hypnotherapy for stress works when willpower doesn’t. What stress actually does to your body

Hypnotherapy for Fear of Public Speaking: How to Feel Calm and Confident on Stage

By Maree-Nicole — Clinical Hypnotherapist & Psychotherapist, Soulful Healing Hypnotherapy, Sydney & via Zoom You know the feeling. The meeting invite lands, or your name goes on the agenda, and something in your body drops. Weeks out, you’re already rehearsing disaster. The night before, you can’t sleep. And when the moment comes — the racing heart, the shaky voice, the mind that goes completely blank the second everyone turns to look at you. If that’s you, first: there is nothing wrong with you. Fear of public speaking (sometimes called glossophobia) is one of the most common fears there is — for many people it ranks above the fear of death. And it is also one of the fears that responds most beautifully to hypnotherapy, because of where the fear actually lives. Why “just practise more” doesn’t fix it You’ve probably already tried the standard advice. Prepare thoroughly. Practise in the
