Frequently asked questions about hypnotherapy, online sessions and working with me.
Frequently Asked Questions
What do you specialise in?
My heart is in helping people break free from patterns that keep them stuck, especially trauma bonds, toxic relationships and the loss of self that often follows. That’s where my Identity Restoration and Signature Breakthrough programs come from, and it’s work I understand from the inside.
I also work with anxiety and stress, IBS and gut health, emotional eating, habits and addictions, confidence and people-pleasing, fears and phobias, and performance and public speaking. Alongside clinical hypnotherapy and psychotherapy, I use NLP and gentle energy work, and I offer Reiki and Past Life Regression as separate sessions.
Not sure if what you’re going through fits? That’s what the free 30-minute call is for.
What happens in the free 30-minute call?
We talk about what’s been going on for you, what you’d like to change, and whether working together feels right. I’ll explain how I work and which option might suit you best. There’s no pressure and no obligation, just a chance to ask questions and see how you feel.
Do I need a referral?
No, you don’t need a referral to see me. If you’re experiencing physical symptoms, such as gut issues, it’s always a good idea to check in with your GP first.
How many sessions will I need?
Most of my work happens through programs, which run from 4 to 12 sessions depending on what you’re working through. If you’d like to experience hypnotherapy first, a single session is a gentle way to try it and see how it feels. We’ll talk about what’s right for you in your free call.
Can hypnotherapy help with anxiety and overthinking?
Yes. Anxiety and overthinking are among the most common reasons people come to see me. Hypnotherapy helps calm the nervous system and works with the patterns underneath the racing thoughts, so your mind has a chance to settle. Many people notice they feel calmer and sleep better within the first few sessions. We’ll talk about what’s happening for you in your free 30-minute call.
Are there any side effects from hypnosis?
Hypnotherapy is considered safe for most people. Some feel tired, emotional or a little light-headed afterwards, and this usually passes quickly. Occasionally old feelings or memories come up, which is why I always work at your pace and make sure you feel settled before you leave.
Who should not be hypnotised?
Hypnotherapy isn’t suitable for everyone. If you have epilepsy, or a serious mental health condition such as psychosis or schizophrenia, please speak with your doctor first. It’s also not something to do while affected by alcohol or drugs. If you’re unsure whether it’s right for you, tell me about your situation in your free 30-minute call and we’ll work it out together.
Why do hypnotists snap their fingers?
That comes from stage hypnosis, where a finger snap is used as a dramatic cue for the audience. It isn’t magic. It’s simply a signal the person has agreed to respond to. In a clinical session there’s no snapping and no swinging watch, just a calm voice guiding you into a deeply relaxed, focused state where you remain aware and in control.
What does hypnotherapy actually feel like?
Most people describe it as deeply relaxing, a little like the moment just before you drift off to sleep. You’re aware of everything, you can hear my voice, and you can speak or open your eyes at any time. It’s not about being “put under”. It’s a calm, focused state where it becomes easier to work with the patterns sitting beneath conscious thought.
Will I lose control, or say things I don't want to?
No. You stay aware and in control the whole time. You won’t say or do anything you don’t want to, nothing happens without your agreement, and you can pause or stop whenever you like.
What if I can't be hypnotised?
Hypnosis is a natural state we all drift in and out of, like when you’re absorbed in a book or driving on autopilot. If you’ve tried hypnotherapy before and it didn’t work, it may simply not have been the right approach for you. I take time to understand what helps you feel safe and choose a method that suits you.
Is it safe if I've experienced trauma?
Yes. I work gently and at your pace, and you stay in control throughout. Before we begin, we talk about what feels safe for you, and we never go further than you’re ready for. If you’re currently seeing a psychologist or counsellor, hypnotherapy can work alongside that support.
Can I have hypnotherapy while seeing a counsellor or taking medication?
Yes. Hypnotherapy can sit comfortably alongside counselling, psychology and medical care. Please don’t stop or change any medication without speaking to your doctor. Let me know about any support you’re receiving so we can work together safely.
Are there any side effects of hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is considered safe for most people. Some feel tired, emotional or a little light-headed afterwards, and this usually passes quickly. If you have epilepsy or a serious mental health condition, please speak with your doctor first and let me know in your free call.
Can hypnosis heal the body?
Hypnotherapy doesn’t replace medical care, but the mind and body are closely linked. It can help calm the nervous system and ease stress-related symptoms, and it is well researched for IBS. Please see your GP about any physical symptoms first.
Can you heal trauma with hypnosis?
Hypnotherapy can help you process what happened and loosen the hold it has on you, at a pace that feels safe. It doesn’t erase memories. For relationship trauma and trauma bonds, I use it as part of a longer program alongside Time Line Therapy® and parts work.
Does online hypnotherapy work as well as in person?
Yes. Hypnosis is a state you create yourself. My voice and guidance are simply how we get you there, whether we’re in the same room or on Zoom.
What do I need for a Zoom session?
A quiet, private space where you won’t be interrupted, a comfortable chair, a stable internet connection and a device with a camera. Headphones can help you settle in. Keep a glass of water nearby, and give yourself a little quiet time afterwards if you can.
Where are face-to-face sessions held?
I am in Sydney. You’ll receive the full address when you book.
Do you offer EMDR?
I use EMDR-informed techniques as part of my work, which I learned during my Diploma of Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy. EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing, and it uses guided eye movements to help the mind process distressing memories. I’m not a separately accredited EMDR practitioner, so I don’t offer it as a stand-alone therapy. I draw on these techniques within a session, alongside hypnotherapy, Time Line Therapy® and parts work, where they suit what you’re working through.
I've already left the relationship. Can this still help me?
Yes. Leaving is often when the hardest part begins. Many people still feel pulled back, blame themselves, or no longer recognise who they are. That’s exactly the work we do together: gently releasing what you’ve been carrying and rebuilding your sense of self.
Can hypnotherapy help with IBS?
Gut-directed hypnotherapy is one of the most researched uses of hypnotherapy. It works with the gut-brain connection, helping to calm the stress response that can make symptoms harder to manage. Before starting, please see your GP to rule out other causes, and continue any medical care you’re receiving.
What's the difference between a single session and a program?
A single session is a gentle way to try hypnotherapy, experience how it feels, and see whether you’re ready to go deeper. Lasting change usually happens through a program, which runs from 4 to 10 sessions depending on what you’d like to work on. A program gives us time to release what you’ve been carrying, understand where it began, and rebuild step by step, with support between sessions.
What are Reiki and Past Life Regression?
Reiki is a gentle, relaxing energy practice, and I’m a Usui and Karuna Ki Reiki Master. Past Life Regression is a guided hypnotic experience for those curious to explore imagery and memories that may feel connected to patterns in this life. Both are offered as separate sessions for those who feel drawn to them.
Where can I buy I See You and I See Me?
You can buy both directly from me on my I See You page, or on Amazon.
Is I See You helpful if I'm still in the relationship?
Yes. Many readers find it helps to see their experience put into words, often for the first time. Please read it in a way that feels safe for you. If you’re worried about your safety, you can call 1800RESPECT on 1800 737 732, any time, for confidential support.
Who is I See Me the journal for?
I created I See Me with teens in mind, but it’s for anyone learning to understand their feelings, recognise red flags, set healthy boundaries and see their own worth. I also gift it to my clients, because it’s a gentle way to keep reflecting between our sessions.
Can schools, counsellors and psychologists use I See Me?
Yes. I See Me works beautifully in schools, counselling and therapy settings. Its guided prompts help young people explore their feelings, recognise red flags, set healthy boundaries and build self-worth, at their own pace. Many practitioners use it between sessions to support the work they’re already doing. If you’d like copies for your school or practice, get in touch.
What's included in the Signature Breakthrough Program?
The Signature Breakthrough Program runs over 10 sessions and is designed for people ready to break free from trauma bonds, toxic relationship patterns and the beliefs that keep pulling them back. Together, we gently release the emotions you’ve been carrying, understand where the pattern began, reframe the beliefs holding it in place, and rebuild your sense of self.
Between sessions, you’ll have personalised audio recordings to listen to, simple weekly tasks to help you put the work into practice, and a copy of my I See Me journal for reflection.
What's included in the Identity Restoration Program?
The Identity Restoration Program runs over 6 sessions and is for anyone who has spent so long coping, caring for others or surviving that they’ve lost touch with who they are. We work on releasing what’s been weighing you down, reconnecting with your values and boundaries, and rebuilding confidence in who you are now.
Between sessions, you’ll have personalised audio recordings and gentle weekly tasks to help the changes settle into everyday life.
How does the IBS & Gut Health Program work?
The IBS & Gut Health Program runs over 6 to 12 sessions, depending on your needs. Your gut and nervous system are closely connected, and stress and held emotions can make symptoms harder to manage. Using gut-directed hypnotherapy, we work on calming that stress response and gently releasing the emotions that may be feeding it.
Between sessions, you’ll have personalised audio recordings and weekly tasks to support your progress. Before starting, please see your GP to rule out other causes, and continue any medical care you’re receiving.
Is there a shorter option for fears, phobias or public speaking?
Yes. For more specific goals, like a fear or phobia, public speaking or performance nerves, I offer a focused 4-session program. It’s designed to help you feel calmer and more confident, with audio support between sessions.
